Scoping is where projects get lost. The client says “I want a website”, the provider hears “I want a website”, and six weeks later nobody has the same thing in mind. We built Scoper to replace that conversation with something more honest: a questionnaire.
Why a questionnaire
Because it asks the questions in the right order, forgets none, and accepts “I don’t know” as a valid answer. Each project type has its own: a company’s 360 audit, a web product, EDI/transport flows — the latter comes straight from twenty years of logistics integration, where we saw too many projects start without knowing who sends what to whom.
Data-driven
Questions, options and their dependencies are not hard-coded: they live in the database. Adding a spec type means adding rows, not code. AI assistance is optional: it rephrases, suggests, completes, but the answer remains the client’s.
From spec to project
Once reviewed — through a signed link, no account needed — the spec converts into a Bench project: specification, scope, assumptions, everything is already there. That is also what our AI assistant sessions do: they push a brief into Scoper for human review before it becomes a project.
What we changed by using it
- Open questions are rare and placed at the end: you get more by offering options.
- A completeness indicator rather than a “finish” button: the client sees what is missing.
- Signed-link sharing replaced the PDF export nobody ever opened.
